Australian Runner Michelle Jenneke Becomes YouTube Celebrity

Ready, on your mark, get set … dance?

With some skillful editing, and just the right music, Michelle Jenneke’s pre-race warming up ritual has made the Aussie runner into the latest YouTube sensation. To loosen up, get ready, and to shake off her pre-race anxiety, Jenneke is all smiles as she hops up and down and gladly waves to the crowd at the IAAF World Junior Championships this month in Barcelona, Spain. When she sprints to take off, she speeds past her opponents in the 110-meter hurdles event, winning the heat.

Now, some fans of Jenneke (and her moves) slowed down the footage of her warm up, added a rather upbeat and catchy tune, re-posted it online, and allowed the video to go viral. The footage has been passed along in multiple social networking sites and has more than 30,000 hits on YouTube. It’s possibly doubling now as you read this.

Though Jenneke isn’t joining the London Olympics, she and her vid surely deserve a medal.
