Poor Christina!
Despite the fact that she is frequently mocked and criticized for having a little too much extra meat on her bones and for flaunting her curvaceous new figure in skintight clothing, Christina Aguilera couldn’t be happier with her new body.
The pop star, who used to be extremely skinny, has revealed in a recent interview with Billboard magazine that she never wanted to be too thin, but was always under a lot of pressure to keep the pounds off so that she could live up to the pop star image that the record industry executives wanted her to cultivate.
Christina says:
“I am Ecuadorian but people felt so safe passing me off as a skinny, blue-eyed white girl.”
And when she gained 15 pounds while promoting her album Stripped in 2002, her bosses immediately reprimanded her and told her to get her butt back into shape. She recalls:
“They called this serious emergency meeting about how there was a lot of backlash about my weight. Basically, they told me I would effect a lot of people if I gained weight—the production, musical directors.”
But since she was “so young” back then, Christina had no idea how to deal with the stress, and she ended up dieting and exercising so much that she became “toothpick thin.”
It was only recently that she finally mustered the courage to stand up to her record industry execs. While she was still working on her upcoming album, Lotus, Christina told her overbearing bosses to back off. She shares:
“I told them … ‘You are working with a fat girl. Know it now and get over it.’ They need a reminder sometimes that I don’t belong to them. It’s my body.”
You tell ‘em, girl!
