But then who’s going to fight with Mariah on the show?
A few days after the video featuring a crazy, profanity-laced fight between Nicki Minaj and Mariah Carey during the American Idol auditions hit the web, rumors have cropped up that the producers of the show are considering firing Nicki.
An American Idol insider tells PEOPLE:
“On the day of the fight production staff were the only people in the room… they are talking about firing Nicki. That is still up for debate. They are worried about how she will act during the live shows.”
The same source, however, also reveals that it was Mariah’s constant taunts that provoked Nicki into her curse-filled screamfest. The source says:
“Mariah has been saying little things to jab at Nicki from day one of shooting… Mariah doesn’t think Nicki can sing and doesn’t think she should be judging folks. Nicki has been taking all of the jabs, but on this particular day she lost it.”
But other insiders are denying this, claiming that Mariah did not provoke Nicki directly, and that the rapper was simply angered by what she perceived to be Mariah’s huge ego. The second source explains:
“There was a contestant who liked opera, and Mariah was talking to her as a pop singer who also liked opera… Nicki cut her off and slammed her fist on the table. Mariah may have been going on a bit too long but she did apologize. But then Nicki flipped out and started yelling.”
One day after Nicki’s outburst was posted on TMZ, Mariah called Barbara Walters and claimed that she heard Nicki make a threat to her life (which was not heard in the video) as she walked off the set after their spat. Nicki allegedly said:
“If I had a gun I would shoot the b*tch.”
Nicki then responded to the allegation by tweeting:
“Hey yAll. Lets just say nicki said smthn about a gun. ppl will believe it cuz she’s a black rapper. Lmao. I’ll then hit up Barbara n milk it.”
A source close to the rapper tells PEOPLE that despite her violent outburst, in which she said things like “off with your head” to Mariah, Nicki is 100% professional. The insider says:
“[Nicki Minaj] always been really professional. She’s like a Gaga or Madonna and is very serious about the order of things. She is tough and direct minded.”
Nonetheless, producers are reportedly worried about how the two will get on once they start doing live shows, so it’s either they force the two women to be cordial, or they let go of one of them.
