Someone takes after her mother. 6-year-old Dannielynn Birkhead, Anna Nicole Smith’s daughter, makes her debut as a model for Guess Kids.
The little girl cuts an adorable stance as she poses at the beach wearing a denim mini-skirt, a vest, and a fedora hat. The ad is for the apparel brand’s Spring 2013 campaign.
Anna Nicole Smith—a model and actress—became the face of Guess in 1992. She led a life that was controversial as it was dramatic. She died in February of 2007 due to an accidental drug overdose at the age of 39. Her death was shrouded in controversy as much as the paternity issue regarding her baby daughter, Dannielynn.
Larry Birkhead, one of Anna Nicole’s exes, was confirmed as Dannielynn’s father via a DNA test, following a long paternity dispute with the model’s partner, Howard K. Stern.
Although Dannielynn’s poses are cute and sweet, not everyone approves of the idea of a child doing a professional modeling campaign. Larry Birkhead has come under fire for allowing his daughter to do the ads.
On Tuesday, Birkhead appeared on Good Morning America defending his daughter’s modeling gig. He said:
“My goal for her is for her to be a child and just do what all kids do.”
He added:
“To see her mom’s picture next to hers as a Guess girl and say, ‘Hey, I was a Guess Kids girl, my mommy was a Guess girl,’ that might be her only connection with her mom.”
Dannielynn’s debut comes twenty years after her mom was launched as the brand’s face. Anna Nicole appeared on several print ads—considered iconic by many.
