The superhero movie, The Avengers, continues to rake in money for its producers.
For the third week in a row, the Disney-produced movie won the weekend box office race, earning another $55.6 million last weekend. Adding to the movie’s already huge earnings, this total brings the movie’s domestic grand total to a whopping $457.7 million. Worldwide ticket sales have climbed to nearly $1.2 billion.
Taking the second spot in the weekend race was Battleship with $25.5 million, and third place went to Sacha Baron Cohen’s comedy, The Dictator, with $17.4 million. The ensemble pregnancy tale, What to Expect When You’re Expecting, snagged fourth place with a respectable $10.5 million.
Ready to capitalize on its box office success, Disney is set to release The Avengers 2 in 2014.
