You think you’re somebody if you get a street or monument named after you. Well, Beyonce is taking things to another level, as Australian scientists have renamed a breed of horsefly after the pop singer.
The creature was discovered in 1981, which happened to be Beyonce’s birth year. Its official name now is Scaptia (Plinthina) Beyonceae. The name change was decided after the insect’s golden hair reminded them of Beyonce.
Bryan Lessard from Australia’s science agency said:
“It was the unique dense golden hairs on the fly’s abdomen that led me to name this fly in honor of the performer Beyonce as well as giving me the chance to demonstrate the fun side of taxonomy – the naming of species.”
Fun indeed. Let’s see what the Carters have to say about this.
