In her new memoir ‘A Helluva High Note,’ former American Idol judge Kara DioGuardi reveals she was the victim of multiple sexual assaults in her younger years. DioGuardi says the first instance of sexual abuse came at the hands of a teenage family friend when she was only 11-years-old.
“On one particular day, he took me into the back shed of his house and put his hands all over my breasts and vagina,” she writes. “I remember freezing and not knowing what to do.”
DioGuardi, 40, also reveals another instance in 2000 when a “fairly known producer” slipped her date rape drugs during a business dinner.
“Within a few hours, he was on top of me, pumping, sweating, and speaking to me in Spanish, not a word of which I could understand,” DioGuardi writes.
The producer was not the only one in the music industry to abuse DioGuardi – the songwriter says she was also sexually harassed by a “hugely successful artist” who had a penchant for “Russian Porn.” DioGuardi admits fear of hurting her songwriting career drove her to keep the sexual abuse a secret.
