McDonald’s and the Consumer Product Safety Commission have announced a recall for 12 million drinking glasses featuring characters from “Shrek.” The fast food chain sold the glasses, which promoted the new movie “Shrek Forever After 3D,” for $2 at locations across the United States in May and June.
The paint on the glass contains cadmium, which can cause kidney and bone damage. Consumers are asked to return the glasses to McDonald’s for a full refund.
“Our children’s health should not depend on the consciences of anonymous sources. Although McDonald’s did the right thing by recalling these products, we need stronger testing standards to ensure that all children’s products are proven safe before they hit the shelves,” said Speier. “Cadmium is a toxic substance that is extremely dangerous to the developmental health of children.”
WTF Kidney and bone damage? The products and packaging being put out into the hands of consumers is scary!!

You’d think that McDonalds and Co. would check everything before putting letting anyone purchase these. What a stupid mistake.
My boys as well as my nieces and nephews have been drinking out of these cups for weeks, and I’m furious. What about any bone and kidney damage that may have already been done but won’t show up for years? I’m tired of these big companies putting our children in danger and then saying “oops, we made a mistake, let us give you your money back” How about not making the mistake in the first place and checking out your products before you market them to children.
I am with you!
We bought the cups for our daughters and they have been using them everyday for two weeks! So angry that it hits the shelves in the first place and falls into the hands of our children.
