A Los Angeles coroner official says Brittany Murphy’s sudden death at age 32 was “preventable.” An autopsy determined the actress died of multiple drug intoxication, pneumonia and iron deficiency. Assistant Chief Ed Winter told People magazine that Murphy would not have died had she seen a doctor.
“This death could’ve been preventable. Murphy was planning on seeing a doctor, but she unfortunately passed away before she did. This was a case of a person with pneumonia who was anemic (having a low blood count) who was taking medication when she should’ve been getting medical treatment,” he says.
Winter notes that Murphy was not taking illegal drugs at the time of her death.
“It was only prescription and over-the-counter meds,” Winter adds.
Murphy was found dead in her Hollywood Hills home on December 20. She is survived by her husband Simon Monjack and mother Sharon Murphy.
