Simon Monjack is hosting a party Thursday for his new ‘Brittany Murphy Foundation,’ a charity he set up in memory of his late wife Brittany Murphy. The foundation helps provide arts education for children. Monjack claims he started the foundation with $1 million of his own money.

According to sources, Monjack is requesting $1,000 donations from individuals and $10,000 from corporations attending the event.

“Everyone thinks it’s very tacky that he is making it so much about money.”

Murphy died December 20 from an apparent cardiac arrest. She was 32. The results of the toxicology report to determine the cause of her death are pending.
