Carrie Underwood: Stars Should Not Back a Candidate

carrie-underwood-b.jpg

Carrie Underwood has a message for Oprah, Diddy, Elisabeth Hasselbeck and even Heidi and Spencer: Don’t publicly back candidates for office.

“There is someone I do support, but I don’t support publicly,” “I lose all respect for celebrities when they back a candidate. “It’s saying that the American public isn’t smart enough to make their own decisions,” she goes on. “I would never want anybody to vote for anything or anybody just because I told them to.”

Do you think celebrities endorse political candidates? Do you think it has an effect?

I agree with Carrie Underwood. I don’t think celebrities should publicly back candidates. Millions of people do things just because Oprah tells them to.

I actually find this comment from Carrie Underwood completely offensive and ignorant. What is she trying to say here, that the average American is stupid and not capable of absorbing information and then making their own decisions? Sounds like it. Thanks Carrie. Thanks. You just lost my vote.

I think it’s great when a Celebrity publicly backs a Candidate or anyone for that matter. They should. Politics is very important in this country and everyone should be involved and care about what is going on. We should be able to come together collectively and be able to openly discuss these matters. I think it is inspiring to see Celebrities be so passionate about different issues or politicians. To sit there and say that millions of people do things just because Oprah tells them to is ridiculous. Is Oprah not allowed to have an opinion? Oprah didn’t TELL anyone to vote for Obama. She simply said this is who I am backing, this is who I am passionate about, this is who I’m voting for. What is wrong with that? Absolutley nothing.

carrie is absolutely correct in this i hate knowing who celebrities vote for they need to shut your mouths who you vote for is supposed to be personal i actually lose respect for people after i know who theyre voting for especially if its for the wrong side

    caligirl,
You completely misunderstood what she said.. She did not say that Americans are incompetent and not able to pick their own candidate..what she said is Americans should be able to choose their candidate without a celebrity telling you to support that candidate as well. The ole’ “I am famous, so I must know what I am talking about” scam..and Oprah does it ALL the time. Rosie O’Donnell does too. They are not politicians, they are entertainers. That is what they should stick to.

haha, it’s so obvious that she was rooting for McCain otherwise she would have said whom she was voting for. it’s like she’s ashamed and doesn’t want to out herself as not supporting obama. it’s like she thinks she afraid of defending her choice.

c’mon people should be able to say who’d they want as a president,it’s freedom of speech. So I’m definetly for celebrities saying whom they’re supporting. Then it’s up to us to make our own choice wheter it be based on FOX news or Oprah.
